Star Trek Original vs NextGen
Entertaining, insightful and thought provoking podcast with one flaw; Driftglass and Bluegal are begrudging Obama apologists as demonstrated by Driftglass's frequent statement, usually after a stinging criticism of the administration, that he "will probably vote for Obama" (the makings of a good drnking game). I was a listener and occassional contributor before they became the ProfessionaLeft. They took the name ProfessionalLeft, I think, as a badge of honor in response to Robert Gibbs mocking of progressives in August 2010. While the podcast attacks Obama for not being a progressive, they also spend a great deal of time explaining the depraved Right implying the only alternative are the Democrats we have and not the Progressives we want. Unfortunately I think that makes them exactly what Gibbs described; the complaining base that will fall in line behind Obama no matter what. Falling in line may be necessary, but it has to be a punch in the stomach to a progressive every time it is said. Driftglass makes frequent Science Fiction references, so here is a SciFi metaphor. In the Star Trek Original at the end of every episode the world is a better place. In Star Trek NextGen at the end of every episode the world is the same place. At the end of every podcast, the world is the same place, Guantanamo is still open, the wars continue, the Bush tax cuts remain in place, and the Patriot Act goes unchanged and if progressives ask or demand too much by threatening to withhold their vote, then it will get worse. If the progressive battle is to keep it the same at the end (NextGen), progressives have lost. At the end of the Podcast you are always left with the message that things could be worse. This is not a hopeful message even though Driftglass and Bluegal frequently express their hopefulness for the country. It makes you want to drink liberally.Read full review »

More reviews of The Professional Left Podcast with Driftglass and Blue Gal
This is the only podcast my wife and I listen to together every week. Driftglass provides the fire and Bluegal keeps him reined in. If you are a liberal, this is a must listen.

Bg and Dg are by far my favorites within the podcast world. They blow everyone else out of the water and the rest seems fake in comparison. If you are a lefty or just curious about what smart rational thought sounds like, tune in! Also, please contribute if you're a regular.Read full review »
