The first 3 episodes of this series were brilliant. I’d summarise the last 2 as: I’m only coming on to tell you that it was everyone else’s fault and not mine if you let me tediously plug my book.

I used to quite enjoy this. It’s not a patch on the rest is politics but it was never going to be, being presented by journalists. However the decision to allow Liz Truss a platform when she is so unrepentant, despite a fairly well balanced mini series looking at what went went wrong, is...Read full review »

We’re still paying for that idiot’s ‘make it up as you go’ ideology. Not interested in what she has to say, I’ve heard enough from that lot thank you.

I’m 2 minutes into the podcast and I have to say I can’t believe you are giving Liz Truss a get out of jail free card. LDI portfolios have, rightly or wrongly, existed for over 10 years and the Bank of England’s plans to sell gilts would have had little or no impact had it not been for a...Read full review »

I’m sorry but just can’t listen to Liz Truss explaining why everyone else was to blame for her failures, SHE fired the chief Secretary to the Treasury because she knew he would warn her against the line she was determined to take. SHE decided not to run the budget past the OBR because she knew...Read full review »

I do think both presenters work well together and I especially love Steph’s up front say it how it is kind of attitude. That’s what we need in a time of a cost of living crisis and what’s happening in our government and around the world. I find it really insightful and it’s my go to educational...Read full review »

Pestons style makes it too hard a listen and talks too much. Have listened to some of the Liz Truss series but won’t again until they change the line-up, particularly with maybe a financial/economic expert as well as a journalist rather than two journos

This is a nerd podcast for nerds. It’s nice they explain some concepts so that it isn’t only interesting for wonks but the pace is just too slow and doesn’t make use of the abilities and knowledge of the hosts. Face it, everyone listening to this has an interest in economics, else they wouldn’t...Read full review »

Fascinating look at the fall of Truss and the way the Bank of England got away with it
50dw50 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 04/17/24
The real problem is that the Bank and the Treasury do not want to hire experts to advise them - they continually hire people who don’t have the relevant experience in the markets so when the Chancellor wants to understand the implications of decisions no one can give the relevant answers

This is an outstanding podcast. Educational, interesting and fun. Its obvious the presenters get along well and respect each other. The recent series on the Truss government managed to be non party political At the same time really explaining what happened behind the media coverage. ...Read full review »

I’d be delighted if Robert would insert a chip in McGovern “brain”. He could switch her off and stop her socialist stupidity from ruining his show

Some very interesting and useful information shared between these 2 however the ratio between adverts and content is too high. Granted it’s part of the free deal with podcasts but Peston and McGovern plug their own products during the content also, (so much that they are obviously self aware-...Read full review »

I enjoy the podcast and have particularly liked the last few - interview with Richard Walker, Musk vs Zuckerberg, the AI episode and the interview with Dame Irene Hays.

I really like both presenters but I don’t think it’s quite working together. Would love to hear Steph McGovern with Adrian Chiles as I think it would achieve a more effortless conversational style that you get on the other Rest is… podcasts.

First, there are far too many adverts. The last episode on the housing market i stopped because it just seemed to be all adverts They don’t work well as a double act - they don’t seem to have prepared and much of their thinking seems to be personal opinions and not grounded in analysis. Needs...Read full review »

I enjoy this podcast so much. It’s a delight to hear these two insightful commentators expand on what seems to be going on in the World of Finance. Peston doesn’t add much value to the conversation. He just parrots opinions with what seems like a lack of critical analysis or research. He is overpowering in the conversation and seems to think this is a podcast about him. I listen to this podcast to understand what popular partially-informed...Read full review »

Came back having unsubscribed due to lots of cases of lack of, or incorrect, detail. Sadly it continues to be disappointing given the quality of the other The Rest Is… podcasts. Listened to a few episodes, last one on octopus energy. They did not get into any detail on the energy market that shed light on the major challenges facing the country’s energy policy. Was really interested to listen to this podcast as Steph is very relatable. Unfortunately Robert Peston persistently talks over her and never lets her land a point. I’m not sure what the programme is about. And I’m not sure they do either. Or how they can best work together. I’ll maybe try again in a month.

In the latest episode an Australian recruiter bemoaned the lack of IT skills in UK. Ironically, minutes later, Mr Peston said that we no longer need to learn to code as AI will code for us and that the government was mad to ban kids from having smart phones in school. I unfortunately had to stop listening to the most recent podcast as Robert kept on interrupting Steph when she wanted to share an opinion he did not share. Very annoying and total lack of respect. A real shame as the topics are good.

As a big fan of the other ‘Rest is’ podcasts I really wanted to like this one. Unfortunately Pestons inability to let Steph speak and allow a full point to be made makes it impossible to listen to. Peston appears incapable of sharing airtime with his cohost. I can’t tell if McGovern has anything worthwhileto add because she can’t get a word in edgewise.

I find the topics Robert and Steph interesting and they have great knowledge and experience, but Robert constantly talks over Steph and when she wants to make a point Robert just speeds up and starts shouting so she can’t join in.

And clearly flailing in the ratings, since it’s being so aggressively pushed on the other (excellent) ‘Rest Is’ shows - which are in a different league.

Tried to stick with this because I love Stef. But Peston is awful. He just talks about gossip fed to him without any critical thinking. Stef needs to try again with another co host.

Generally enjoying this, but had to turn off Jeremy Hunt. Unchallenging interview, bordering on sycophancy. Probably not intentional, but this man has a lot to answer, for and I really don’t care if he tried to sell marmalade to the Japanese!!
MeEdsdad via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/13/24
I tried to give this podcast another go and I just listened to the interview with Jeremy Hunt. It may as well have been a Tory party political broadcast. They both let him spout his nonsense with ZERO challenge or questioning over his statements. Very poor and I won’t be listening again.
Robbie Garthland via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/10/24
The latest episode with Jeremy Hunt, shows how out of touch he and his political party are. Steph asked about teaching children financial literature and he just come back with how maths will be extended! He has no idea!!!

Money views and economic sense. And sexiness. McGovern and Peston!!!

Essentially a basic guide to the current state. Doesn’t really analyse the root cause of economic malaise just parrots same neo liberal solutions. No real original thinking - could do with some guests who challenge their orthodoxy

Want your daily fix of china bashing lies? Get your fill for a week in one episode. The clueless hosts may know they’re spewing anti China propaganda but likely totally unaware when they resort to racist caricatures. Uk and their media always America’s number one lapdog.

A pretty poor and superficial podcast. Too much personal opinion and too little examination of the evidence and facts. Stopped subscribing
pharmike via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 12/23/23
Not grounded in well informed analysis. For example, the latest episode on the importance of sustainability in consumers buying behaviour was very thin. No evidence was put forward at all. Doubt the two have read any economics for 20 years, insight on economics is the subject matter expertise I’d expect from an A/B grade student at GCSE. It is the right balance of making economics relatable and understandable. I didn’t think i would like it but I love how it demonstrates economics, business ripples throughout society.

Very superficial and politically one sided. Presenters not knowledgeable about subject matter.
Diluegaonotte via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 11/26/23
Not engaging and impossible to follow. While I am perfectly fond of both, the presenters have zero rapport and near zero knowledge on the topic—I don’t think the producers quite grasped what it is that made The Rest is Politics such a success. A real missed opportunity.

I had high hopes for this show but it’s just another left-wing mouthpiece.
