Interesting, but gets Anglo Catholics in Communion Wrong
Was excited to find this since I too am Anglo-Catholic and was more excited because the first episode was on Anglo-Catholicism. I knew I'd likely disagree with the hosts on things like the ordination of woman but I'm not the sort who sees this as an obstacle for conversation and learning. The hosts note that they seek not to be polemical, yet I found treatment of Anglo-Catholicism was highly polemical against the C of E, ACC, and TEC in my opinion. The good point is made that Catholic aesthetics won the day yet Catholic theology fails to be dominant in those churches. I think this is fair as far as it goes, yet they speak loosley and seem to describe the entirety of Anglo-Catholics in TEC and C of E as retaining an outward form yet being heterodox theologically ("one TEC bishop said something about being able to only sing the creed so therefore..." B The suggestion is even explicitly made that confessing the creed is like wearing purple vestments in Lent: it doesn't guarantee you're orthodox. Sure to an extent, but really guys?) This may be true in many places but it is laughable to attribute this to many TEC Anglo-Catholics. Have the hosts been to Church of the Incarnation in Dallas? St. Thomas in NYC? Saint Clements in Philadelphia (to name a few)? Many Anglo-Catholics in TEC and C of E even agree with the hosts on the divisive issues in the communion (human sexuality and ordination of women). But such nuance is not given. I even understand that one of the hosts is a student at Nashotah House, a *checks notes* orthodoxy Anglo-Catholic seminary of the Episcopal Church (granted with a strong ACNA presence) so they ought to be aware of this.Read full review »

The Anglo-Catholic tradition has a long and rich history of theology, evangelism, and cultural engagement. Sadly as a movement, it has not yet fully embraced new media. This podcast is a great first step and fills an important space in current conversations about Christianity and culture.

I just found this podcast, and I love everything about it! The fact that I sometimes disagree with the hosts theologically (proud ECUSA member, here!) detracts not a hot or tittle from my enjoyment of the show. I have a STRING feeling that I could discuss a thorny issue with either of them over a...Read full review »
