Good luck! And I have suggestions
I’m intrigued to see how it goes! As someone who used to be like PJ but now mostly can watch horror movies without worry, I think maybe some goofy over-the-top movies might help? Combined with artistic and compelling movies? The stuff you can laugh at really helps with desensitizing, and watching it with people who will laugh helps too. The “Night of the Living Dead” and “Dawn of the Dead” movies would be good—just getting over gore would help PJ, and those movies have enough plot and humor and thematic stuff to over analyze to help you through it and come out feeling like you liked it. And “Evil Dead II”—the gore is relentless so you get used to it, and the effects are artful so you have to get pulled out of the fear a little to appreciate it (idk, stop motion?), and the humor is great. And then like, serious “elevated horror” too. (“It Follows” will definitely stress PJ out buuuut it’s good? In addition to those mentioned in this first episode: “Hereditary”, “midsommar,” “Get Out” etc. And how about “The Descent”? ) Consider the Lewis quote “I never knew grief felt so much like fear” maybe—so many horror movies centered around some initial traumatic loss. But it’s also so tied to humor, and just—intense emotional release! Lots to chew on. And maybe chewing on all that will help PJ experience them differently. Anyway, good luck!

These guys are awesome! Loved hearing the commentary from Alex and PJ, very funny duo! Also superb choice with their first guest, Jason Mantzoukas, who instigated fantastic house rules that PJ must follow on watching horror movies moving forward. Looking forward to hearing more!
