“The Sheridan Tapes is a reasonably engaging horror podcast. The story is pretty good, although the presentation can be somewhat forced and awkward. The original score is fabulous, reminiscent of Bernhard Herrmann (and it reminds me a bit of the score from the TV series Westworld, oddly).
The acting starting out in season 1 was a bit hit and miss. Airen Neeley Chaconas does her best with the long passages of text she’s often given to work with, but it’s generally clear that she’s reading and not speaking extemporaneously. Trevor Van Winkle initially subscribed to the long-drawn-out-sighs school of acting, but that eventually falls by the wayside.
The production quality is pretty decent, although early on, there are some issues, specifically with dialog from actress Amitola Lomas. I’m assuming this was a pandemic issue, forcing the team to do their best while working at a distance, but I don’t know. Fortunately, this quality issue clears up pretty quickly.
Overall, I enjoy the show. Sometimes, I think it may concentrate too much on the angsty relationship drama that every couple presented on the show goes through, but it’s fine. The writing is actually top notch, especially as the show goes on. There are bits here and there that are genuinely scary, which is a good thing in a horror podcast.”
