Cornucopia
Melissa, your podcast Stubborn Light of Things served as haven, a ramble through a curated landscape of nature and literature. We walked in a giant loop, denoted by the opening and closing poems you shared – Brackenberry’s “Brockhampton” and Zagajewski’s “Try to Praise the Mutilated World,” in which you bookended the podcase with two instances of the stubborn light of things. Thank you for transporting us to the England of yore, the England of Hardy and Wordsworth, Edwards, Hughes, and Gilbert White & today's England of Berry, Beer, Liptrot, Jamie, Selby, and Fenton. Thank you for new words – “petrichor” and “apotropaic.” Thank you for the discussions of time and the bravery of birds, the brightness found in the descent of night, and the truth inherent in trees moving in wind. Thank you for introducing Charlotte Mew and reacquainting me with Verlyn Klinkenborg - known long ago when letters were written - and the observations of humans from the perspective of an abject reptile. Superb. No ads. Read reviews below and couldn’t agree more. Ordered the book too. Likely to be given as presents if as good as the podcast. Really Well Done, all involved. A cut above.

Suffolk, birdsong, Gilbert White, the contributions from Melissa’s friends, it’s a mind-opening...Read full review »

What a beautiful, therapeutic, life-affirming thing this podcast is. There’s arguably very little to it: a quiet layering of poems, observations on local nature, historic snippets of natural history. Yet everything about it speaks of love and care and the preciousness of each of us imperfect...Read full review »
