“Unquestionably one of the finest resources of Tolkien education in the iTunes store.
The Tolkien Professor's podcasts are recordings of candid discussions between the professor and his students (who call themselves the Silmarillionaires) on various subjects relating to the work of J.R.R Tolkien (The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, The Lord of theRings etc).
The content is excellent, covering a wide range of subjects with great depth and humour (Professor Corey Olsen is actually very funny).
On the technical side, listeners will find that the voice of the Tolkien Professor is always clear while his students voices are sometimes either too faint or too loud. The necessity to constantly ride the volume on podcasts does take away from the flow of conversation and therefore the experience of these podcasts. It would be easily remedied by appying an audio compressor to the finished podcast after editing to even the volume out, so maybe the technical crew can look at that in the future.
That being said, the conversation is so good that anyone truly interested in Tolkien or in love with the Lord of the Rings must try out what is an extremely addictive podcast.
You will be rewarded with fun, humour and a greatly increased understanding of the world in which The Lord of the Rings takes place.”
