For anyone stumbling across this review looking for good Tolkien podcasts, you will not be disappointed with this feed. It's not only Cory Olsen's college lectures, which are great in themselves, but also a collection of commentaries, speculations, and discussions featuring some of Cory's friends...Read full review »

Not only has this greatly expanded my knowledge and my enjoyment of both Tolkien's written works and the adaptations, I think that Prof. Olsen has, by example, taught me to be a more precise thinker and communicator. Can't speak highly enough of this show or his classes.

Perfect for people who want to understand Tolkien's work.

As an avid Tolkien reader and quasi-scholar, I have loved what I have heard so far. While most of it was not new to me, it's nice to hear someone else (besides myself) go on and on about the finer points of Tolkien was very nice. Keep up the great work!

Most university profs could learn a thing or two from The Tolkien Prof. He brings a great storytelling technique to his lectures that make them engaging. And using podcasts as a tool in his kit bag is just another way he takes pedagogy seriously.

Unquestionably one of the finest resources of Tolkien education in the iTunes store. The Tolkien Professor's podcasts are recordings of candid discussions between the professor and his students (who call themselves the Silmarillionaires) on various subjects relating to the work of J.R.R Tolkien...Read full review »

The best podcast/lecture on Tolkien's works. Deepened my appreciation of his writings and will make you want to re-read them all over again!

Prof. Olsen is steeped in the lore of Tolkien's works and has a good knowledge and recall of these facts. There is a lot of information for people interested in the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and Silmarilion but I would offer a word or two of caution. Firstly, there are some decidedly 'off'...Read full review »

A great series of recordings. I fixed the ordering problem by going to the website and adding the podcast's RSS feed to iTunes (Advanced -> Subscribe to Podcast) instead of adding it through iTunes U. This gets you everything in order.

Either if you have read Tolkien a hundred times or none at all you will surely find these episodes both illuminating and enjoyable. Don't hesitate to listen at least to the first episode to hear some of the unusual but remarkable ideas Tolkier had about the "story-telling" job.

A well cited and grounded journey through the stories of Tolkien. Inspires me to re read Tolkien and encourages you to look at fantasy literature in a different way. The professor is very passionate about the subject and is transferred to listener very easily! Highly recommended. Thank you!

A family member recently introduced me to this series, and I just can't stop listening. This is such an intelligent discussion of Tolkien's works, but it manages to be really fun at the same time-- though his respect for Tolkien's work is obvious, Prof. Olsen has a great sense of humor! My only...Read full review »

By far and away the best Tolkien podcast and resource out there. Prof. Olsen is a fantastic and engaging lecturer, as well as an natural podcaster. If you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings, of fantasy and swords and sorcery, of fairytales, or of literature in general, you should definitely...Read full review »

I have enjoyed read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I am enjoying this series of lectures. What a great way to learn...and no tests!

I really wanted to listen to the lecture but Corey was taking way to fast for me. Maybe it is that we talk slower in the Midwest? I found it too distracting and deleted the lecture.

Ditto to everything JKoepke wrote in his previous review. However, note that episodes sharing the same release date (e.g., 7/2/09 for the first four episodes) cannot be relied upon to play in order. I don't know if there's any way to fix this (I'm not sure how the nuts and bolts of podcasting...Read full review »

I can't figure out how to describe how incredible this podcast is. I think I've started this review at least four or five times trying to find a way to portray my enthusiasm for it. If you are looking for a podcast that will give a close, academic look at Tolkien's writings, this is the podcast...Read full review »
