“I’ve been listening to the truth for a few years and have been generally entertained. The most recent episode “like me” changed that. I’m guessing I’m on the younger side of the listening ages for the truth’s audience at 25. This seems obvious now because no person under the age of 30 would have approved “like me”. The episode seems to think it’s critiquing the callus nature social media brings out in a young generation. However, rather than succeeding in this goal, the episode came off as out of touch, offensive, and frankly embarrassing for the writers of the truth. In a world full of content shaming gen z and younger millennials for simply existing in a different digital age than our predecessors, this episode is just another stone thrown on the pile. The characters are poorly written, reeking of misogyny, and fail to grasp even the most minuscule “truth” of what teens and young adults are experiencing online. Where as older generations experienced the blatant calls for suicide from online bullies, my generation is dealing with incredible subtleties, dog whistles, and nuance, having been inundated from birth with messaging against the outdated style of bullying that truthfully hasn’t existed online since Tumblr’s height in 2015. This episode would have come off better if it were written by an actual high schooler rather than a professional writer letting their prejudice and internalized misogyny show. Take the show down and issue an apology. Embarrassing.”
