Pirate Radio OtW Podcast Perfection
The Vergecast has recently taken a back seat in my daily listening. I enjoy all of the hosts but I’ve been a little bored with recent developments in mobile technology. I admire Nilay’s eye for the nuanced differences between Pixel and iPhone image processing, but it’s a pass for me. I tuned in to the Vergecast by default driving in to work early this morning and, after hearing the intro to the Pirate Radio OtW episode, I almost swiped to a different podcast if not for a few tricky traffic merges. The geo-political stage setting of the episode did not sound like something I felt like hearing about this morning, but the story quickly dove down to that very personal level of a foreign national who willingly stuck his neck out to help the American cause in Afghanistan and the subsequent hardships brought about by his cooperation. The storytelling was right on point: well paced for the length of episode and appropriate level of detail. I never thought twice about swiping to a different podcast this morning. The link to Pirate Radio is really more of just a jumping off point for this story, but it was engaging nonetheless. Great work to the writers and producers.
