Love the dynamic between Quentin and Roger
This show is great. I’m a long time fan of QT’s films and interviews but I began listening because of Roger’s thoughtful and insightful breakdown of movies from 1987 on a different podcast. But there is a problem with the format of this show and the problem is Gala. It’s not that she isn’t wonderful, because she seems smart, funny and nice. But because she’s Roger’s daughter and because QT and Roger both care about her — they are censoring themselves and literally treating Avery’s kid with kid gloves. Unfortunately this is to the detriment of the show. If anyone else (other than Gala) said that “The Man with the Golden Gun” was the best Bond movie and Knick Knack was the best henchman, QT and Roger would have verbally disemboweled them in a profanity-laced take down worthy of such cinematic heresy. It didn’t happen. But it should have and it would have except that both men are politely deferential to Gala (as is proper) because she is Roger’s daughter. I’ll keep listening, but I know we are getting the filtered and varnished version of Avery and Tarantino. As good as this show is, instead of Jules’ wallet saying “BAD SON OF A GUN”, I wish we were getting the real, uncut version of two longtime buddies and movie aficionados talking movies they way they would when the kids weren’t around.
