Hey, you’re Video f-ing Archives. Don’t you forget it.
Let me preface by saying I co-host & co-produce my own cinema podcast (Replay Value), shameless plug, so I always appreciate a good cinema podcast. That being said, a cinema podcast from Oscar winning, best friend filmmakers Quentin Tarantino & Roger Avary far exceeds anything I ever could have hoped for in the medium. The level of cinema knowledge and expertise that is so well articulated in each episode enriches me with a film education I struggle to find elsewhere. Their point of view is strongly opinionated which makes for great podcasting. I thoroughly enjoy it when they disagree and really love it when Quentin gets irritated with Gala in a loving way. It’s a clash of generations and it’s an interesting wrinkle to throw into Quentin & Roger’s dynamic at various intervals throughout the show. I’m very fond of the introduction of the awards segment and if I could offer my two cents at all…I would love to see best scenes, lines and maybe their favorite shot from each film mentioned. I appreciate nuance, and I love how they read the ads in classic advertising voices of yesteryear. And on top of all that, Quentin Tarantino is at the very least, one of the greatest film makers of all time, and at best, is the greatest writer/director to ever strike pen to paper. My dad’s favorite director was Kubrick, my favorite director is Tarantino. To be able to actually listen to him on a podcast talk about movies is just f-ing awesome.

Every other entry is the manifestation of a GenXer’s pastiche habit coupled with a 15-year-old boy’s...Read full review »

It’s admittedly early days for this show, but I find myself excited to find out what is coming next and how available/unavailable the titles are for me to track down and join in on the home game. The notion that QT has a great video store in the recesses of his home might be the ultimate flex for...Read full review »
