Great atmosphere, subpar acting and writing
The White Vault features an intriguing concept and excellent sound design. Oftentimes I get chills imagining the frigid conditions and there is a slow burn as we learn that something more sinsister befell this expedition. The problem, however, is that the actors are very clearly reading off their scripts which leads to unnatural dialogue (particularly when they are asked to rattle off long stretches of scientific facts). The dialogue also relies heavily on leading questions ("What were you doing before this?" "How do you feel about our mission?" etc) in order to offer insight to the characters. Good story and it is exciting to listen to, but OH MY GOD!!!!! The cadence, the fakeness and the overly trying to be the “brute, strong man” stop it. Just stop talking!
