Did you ever want a fantasy version of Seven Samurai? Look no further! The Maleficent Seven by Cameron Johnston delivers big time. Vampires, demons, warrior gods, mad alchemists. The most fun I've had reading all year. 

Matt finally, finally gets to Fools Fate by Robin Hobb. He was adamant going into this trilogy that nothing would surpass LiveShip Traders. With Fitz's story completed (for now), how did Tawny Man rank in the Hobb-verse? 

Old faces and new show up at Buckkeep. Fitz has his hands full with lovers, family, his grief, and of course, The Fool. Golden Fool is a bridge book into the final installment of The Tawny Man series, but I loved every page. 

Back with Fitz and Nighteyes! Fool's Errand is full of happiness and literally nothing sad or tragic. Oh, wait. It actually used my heart as a punching bag, much like Farseer. Can't wait to read it again!

Matt visits Sherwood for the first time since he watched Disney's Robin Hood. The Ghosts of Sherwood, a novella from Carrie Vaughn, is a short but sweet story about Robin's family after the events of the main Robin Hood story. Matt praises the real heroes of this story - Robin's children. 

Matt's first re-read of Oathbringer by Brando Sando. Initially he had mixed feelings, but (like many Sanderson books) upon re-read he's seen some things in a new light. There's still the occasional hiccup (Radiant), but overall it was a smoother ride. 

Matt joins back up with Tau in his bloodthirsty odyssey of revenge. Been a while since we've been so invested in a character. Witnessing Tau's story is like a bad car accident. Horrifying, but we can't turn away. 

Matt packs his suitcase and vacations in the volatile island of Kekon where the Kaul family is up to their eyeballs in trouble. There's secrets aplenty in that family, but it's no secret how much Matt enjoys this series. 

The journey towards RoW continues as Matt returns to his old favorite - as in favorite Sanderson book and maybe, just maybe, favorite fantasy book ever. It never gets old and his fist never tires from pumping during the Sanderlanche. 

Matt finally finishes his Halloween reads....in December! Tag along as he recounts his time with this mixture of Ray Bradbury and Battle Royale with a splash of The Long Walk. Quick and spooky right in time for Christmas...

During his third re-read of The Way of Kings, Matt discusses his underrated moments from Book 1 in the Stormlight Archive. Characters and moments that didn't stand out his first go-round in Roshar are front in center this time around. 

Who says you can't read horror in November? Middle aged women vs dashing vampire. Nosy neighbors and misogynistic husbands. Rabid old ladies and a tidal wave of rats. Yeah, this one's a goodie. 

It's been over a month and Matt still hasn't recovered from the bloody brilliance of THE TROUBLE WITH PEACE. He dives into predictions for Book 3, First Law cameos, and as is tradition - ranks his favorite characters. 

Claustrophobia is the best type of phobia! Matt is back to reading some horror. Or at least something that makes him uncomfortable. And he cherished each disturbing page of Max Booth III's WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING. 

In attempt to solve this fantasy puzzle box of a story, Matt attempts to channel his inner Manet and remember *everything*. It goes...poorly. But he does remember how amazing it was to read this novella. Check it out! 

The final rankings are in! Liveship Traders has undeniably become one of Matt's most adored trilogies. But the question remains. Which character won the series? It was a wicked tough choice - but only one can come out on top.

Returning from vacation, Matt takes another psychedelic trip into the world of City of Sacrifice. The Gods are battling, using their Hearts to do their dirty (and bloody) work. Nuru and Akachi have sacrificed plenty. But is it worth it? 

The Winds of Time Podcast returns to the delightful world of Sarah Gailey. And this time Matt re-reads one of the stories that lead him down the novella rabbit hole. River of Teeth is full of fun. And hippos. And feral hippos. Also betrayal! But more importantly....hippos! 

Nobody does grimdark and weird quite like Michael R. Fletcher. He's a Winds of Time Hall of Famer and has added another disgusting addition to the collection. Smoke and Stone is a fantastical mind trip in the best of ways. 

Fate of the Fallen is the pleasant surprise Matt needed during these tough times. An epic fantasy adventure that's short and sweet, and never stops moving - much like Aaslo. 

Fetching steals the show, and Matt's heart. The sequel that lives up to the hype and gives fans more of what they want. The True Bastards by Jonathan French! 

In an attempt to broaden his fantasy horizons, Matt delves into UPRIGHT WOMEN WANTED by Sarah Gailey. Turns out it was the best decision he's made all month because this book is a wicked fun read. And let's be honest - they had us at "queer librarian spies".
