Excellent, thought provoking, complex
I loved this podcast. I’ve listened to it twice. Listening is the key here and it’s something that bad actors don’t engage in. The hear what the expect someone to say and disregard nuance as unimportant. This was a great podcast not just due to the discussion of this particular very difficult topic but for what it highlights about current societal behaviours in relation to difficult topics. To question is always vailed bigotry? to discuss nuance is always vailed bigotry?, and now even silence is always vailed bigotry?. Those things are sometimes used as vailed bigotry. If you listen, you might find out if it is or isn’t. Listening, thinking, is required. These bad actors are engaging in violent ‘group think’ mobs. This type of behaviour exists on both sides of politics and preaches “comply, or their will be consequences”. That’s violence, that’s repressive. There are other ways to progress society, and change social norms.
