“I can’t recommend this highly enough. Such an incredible range of historians on this podcast, I am still ploughing through the back catalogue and rarely skip a single one.
The subject matter experts are all allowed to speak and tell their story, usually (but not always) based on the subject of a well researched new book giving fresh insight into a chapter of history.
They are given time and space to talk, without interruption, sharing their insight. James Rogers is an excellent host. His questions are probing and help the experts to share their knowledge but it’s what he doesn’t do, interrupt, that really makes this so refreshing. A journalist would be looking for some dumb “angle” but James gets the best out of his expert contributors, probably as he’s a historian himself and understands that these subjects deserve time to be explored.
I really can’t recommend this series enough, I am completely hooked. Favourites would be:
- Tuskagee airmen
- Falklands from an Argentine perspective
- Mosquito Pathfinder at Dresden “watch the bloody steeple!”
- Dien Bien Phu
- Any of the Korean war episodes but especially the one of HMS Belfast with the old sailor telling his story was memorable
- Abraham Lincoln
Dive in and enjoy it, you’ll be hooked too in no time.”
