Funny, smart, good.
This podcast makes me laugh out loud in my car. I know Renata personally, but not so well that I would listen to her podcast if it weren't good. It's good. There's humor, snark, and smart critiques that may remind you of college, in a good way. Three episodes in, they've already touched on racial stereotypes, global capitalism and wealth disparities, and whether it's fair to ask teen books to present healthy relationship models. Each episode has librarian Renata, author Kait, and a guest. They have good librarian ethics - not looking down on anyone or shaming people for particular reading tastes. They mock books, not readers. They riff on each other but don't ramble endlessly - they move quickly thorough a bunch of segments, which include Candy Pairing, Reader's Advisory, and Would You Rather. The Reader's Advisory segment is useful - I will be picking up Bright-Sided (recommended on the episode for The Secret). I'd love to hear some more data on exactly how well various books sold or what accolades they gained. Looking forward to future episodes.Read full review »

A friend got me into this, and I'm so glad! I was hesitant, because I'm not super into stuff that discusses things negatively, but when they find themselves enjoying something (even if it's not great lit,) that is always fun, and they do read some truly bad sounding books, for which...Read full review »
