“...but I’m really turned off by the script and the vibe. It feels like the host and the guests are taking pains to sound unscripted, but the effect is cheesy. And some of the gags—the producer in the shower for the Cape Town story, the “We Didn’t Start the Fire” bit for Mueller indictments—fall flat for me. Do interesting reporting and tell a good story, and you don’t need a gag. What I like most about the Weeds and The Daily and other similar podcasts is the authenticity of the hosts. It comes through while listening. I don’t get that vibe from Today, Explained. Kinda bummed.”
