As a college age kid in the US in the early 80s I was completely immersed and obsessed with the new wave of British bands who brought a completely fresh and original sound across the pond. The synths, the beats, the melodies, the harmonies, the embrace of pop, rock and dance was liberating for me since it was what my musical preferences gravitated to as opposed to the stale and tired music styles which the late 70s carried over into the very beginning of the 80s. What makes listening to Dan and Will so enjoyable is that I hear that same sense of loving the types of music I’ve been excited about since the early 80s and they’re expressing it from their UK point of view and with an appreciation for the foundations which most of today’s electronic and pop music was built upon. Additionally, they both have this sharp and sarcastic very British sense of humor which makes the podcasts even more enjoyable. Their most recent episode celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of Duran Duran’s debut album titled Duran Duran is brilliant and encapsulates their love of music and in particular this album and band. They have included contributions from many who have worked with the band and a couple of surprises as well. Easily my favorite episode. But I’ve also lived episodes on New Order, Electronic, Pet Shop Boys, Blondie, Kylie Minogue, Alanis Morrisette, ABBA, U2, Madonna, Erasure, Depeche Mode and many, many more. Dan and Will are very knowledgeable about the music they discuss, yet, they approach it from a sense of enjoyment and love of music. Down to earth, relatable and great sense of humor make each of their episodes really fun to hear.

Is this the same dan bull that made the rap “the arch-illager”? It’s my favorite song and he is one of my favorite artists. How does he rap that fast!?

I have listened to many a podcast that is music based and I came across this on instagram and thought I’d give it a go. Found both The White Room and Blackout episodes to be lacking in any real research to have been carried out with regards to the album, songs or its tracks. And their attempts at...Read full review »

A great podcast with two genuine people with a genuine passion for the music they’re talking about and a real depth of knowledge.
