AN ACQUIRED TASTE; OFTEN BRILLIANT
Burl is a famous best selling true crime author, so you expect him to behave like one - oh, he CAN be serious, insightful and compelling - but he often chooses to portray himself as bizarrely eccentric— even silly. HOWEVER - when he suddenly becomes the same “voice” we hear when reading his true crime classics, we realize the depth of his talent and intelligence. I do miss his two previous co-hosts who passed away - they did provide a sense of balance - the guests know what to expect even if you don’t. So, stick with it.

I love Berl and there’s no true crime writer with greater integrity. I could do without all the sound effects but I guess it’s part of the radio thing.
