Doing What Iliza Loves Most: Complaining!
I tried to get on board with this podcast. I really did! I've listened to every episode since the beginning, and I'm stopping because I am clearly not Truth and Iliza's target audience. But I'm still giving her 3 stars because I'm sure someone out there will enjoy it. But it's not me, and here's why. Iliza styles her podcast as a 45 minute "kvetch" session, which I thought could be hilarious until I realized her problems are almost exclusively "Hollywood" problems and "hot girl" problems. Maybe it's just the way show's format unfolds. Maybe I'm used to Marc Maron's personal honesty and humility. Or maybe I'm just not getting the joke, but Iliza comes off as mean-spirited and snobby, and with a lack of self-awareness that, if present, might still make this podcast pretty great. Usually I love mean-spirited humor (Tosh, Jeselnik) but there's nothing tongue-in-cheek about the way Iliza presents herself. Every time she wines she draws a class divide between her and the people who might actually buy tickets to see her, and I'm bored with it. There's too much good comedy on iTunes to waste time listening to anything you don't love 100% of the time and unless you're hot, female, and a little rich, you might not. Having said all that I love Shlesinger's stand-up. If she changed her format and didn't insist on 45 minutes of first-world-problems-without-zero-awareness-of-how-trivial-they-actually-sound, I'd probably still listen.Read full review »

Comedy aside I think she’s very real and I enjoy hearing her express herself about…whatever. She's funny and also insightful.Read full review »
