Kind of Awful.
It really depends on who the guests are, but it’s more of a miss than a hit. The extent of the analysis of Dune is that it is “humourless” and “cold”. While, boringly and rather predictably, they love art undergrad’s favourite…Wes Anderson. No real critique here of how he seems to do the same schtick in every single film, but hey that’s just my opinion. I’m very reluctant to call this film criticism. The discussions just about pass as post-cinema chat in the Wetherspoons next door with Joe Bloggs. They also need to work on their “kind ofs” and “like” every other word—it’s way too casual, really off-putting, and studenty. Update: listen to the ‘film of the year’ Titane episode - LWL editor David Jenkins (editor!) struggles to string a coherent sentence together, and speaks about the film for about five minutes - whilst simultaneously saying basically nothing - kind of.

James Richardson is as excellent as always, and makes everyone else involved better too. The best film podcast around.

Challenging, funny and deeply interesting. I have been a huge James Richardson for many years and it's great to hear him speak in this new forum. A gentleman as ever!Read full review »
