Surprised that it wasn’t great.
I assumed any BBC coverage of this would be great. Pretty disappointed in the info this provides. The hosts take the role of “we are clueless about Ukraine, educate us, guests!” That seems like a good idea, but then some of the guests seem totally clueless. For example, they all seem mystified by the meaning of the “Z” symbol associated with the invasion. It’s an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) marking used by the Russians to make it clear which vehicles are theirs and which are Ukrainian. This was noted by many defense analysts on day 1 of the invasion, but Ukrainecast seems confused (and even dismissive of that basic idea!) on day 12. Maybe try the NPR Ukraine podcast.

Love listening to this podcast. It brings a very personal and detailed perspective on the war in Ukraine.

The contributors are mostly very interesting. But Victoria’s forced and affected tone is just sooo painfully earnest, just sooo empathetic that she talks slower and quieter to her guests as if they are not that intelligent. Have to switch off a lot of the time as it’s just too hard to listen to.

The next time Nadine Dorries takes a potshot at the BBC, we can point to the professionalism of Victoria, Gabriel, Vitaly and all of the BBC and other contributors, in bringing us these vital updates. Thank you.
