“Ken McLeod learned Tibetan a long time ago, and amongst other things was a translator for a Tibetan lama named Kalu Rinpoche, who was kind of like the Dalai Lama, but not involved in politics. He did two three year retreats, and he obviously knows the material he teaches backwards and forwards and inside out. What makes him special to me is that he also brings a post-modern, almost secular perspective to these teachings which in many ways were rooted in an almost medieval monastic background. Basically, if you want, you can learn almost everything you are capable of learning about Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism for free from an honest and wise advisor. Some people I have shared this with found it invaluable, others don''t really like the way the teachings are delivered. Some of the stuff that he teaches would in years/decades/centuries gone by required you to live in a monastery and pledge utter obedience to a guru. I don't think he asks for anything, though, once you start the journey, better to see it through, as your life will change profoundly if you take these teachings to heart.”
