The science is a Trojan horse for so much late Gen X/Millennial navel-gazing driven by a disability-as-identity subjectivity. Worse still, McArthur uses his own son — a vulnerable, young, child with very real health concerns — as a “motivation” to make a podcast. (That alone makes this project...Read full review »

I was especially interested as I am participating in a clinical trial of Rapamycin, and my epigenetic age test has me 12 years older than my biological age - not great news for anyone! I thought the explanations in the fourth episode about Mtor, telemeres, etc., were so well done - I really...Read full review »

Stephen Hawking once said that due to greed and stupidity, humankind will last another 100 maybe 200 years. He died four years ago. The clock is ticking. Humankind has been around for approximately 330,000 years. In 1812 the world population was 1 billion. In 1912 it was 1.5 billion. Given that...Read full review »

I really loved this podcast!!! Along with Bryson’s Brain 🧠 It was thought provoking, insightful, inspirational and I really enjoyed the way it was produced. I wanted to learn more! I really hope we get a sequel of both!!

Wonderful storytelling that effectively relays Keith’s and his family’s struggles, hopes, hard work, and love. What a great show! It should win all the awards!

Can’t speak for season 1 but season 2 covers an unenviable amount of ground through interviews that are consistently top notch. Keith’s voice-over style between interviews may get on some people’s nerves though as he indulges in many, MANY tiny thoughtful hesitations.

Keith McArthur is such a great podcaster and does such an incredible job of educating himself to then teach stuff to us. I learned so much and it was still easy to digest! Despite other reviews, I do NOT feel he breezed over the ethical dilemmas surrounding this topic. It was thorough,...Read full review »

Sweet, with lots of personal touches but an extremely good summary of current science around longevity with practical steps to change lifestyle. Can’t wait for the next subject you tackle!

If you, Bezo’s, and Teal are planning to live a thousand years you might want to pay a little attention to climate change. What amazing waste of resources.

Amazing podcast! Covers everything from how it feels to be a parent, sibling and caregiver of a kid with a rare disease to the ethics of cures for disabilities to how gene therapy works. Totally eye opening and thought provoking. Best podcast I’ve listened to in years! Like nothing I’ve heard...Read full review »

While quite interesting in terms of scientific information, this series drips with white privilege. The same episode that touches on ethics and the loaded meaning of a cure, ends in the formation of a foundation FOR finding a cure... Hopefully the future of this podcast can feel more...Read full review »

I sincerely enjoyed listening to this heartfelt podcast. It often brought tears to my eyes and introduced me to Scientific research that I was oblivious to. Rooting for this family & especially Bryson.

I heard an excerpt on The Current and then had to download and binge the whole podcast. What an incredible family and I’m learning so much! I hadn’t considered all the ethical complexities around a cure before, but I still do hope a cure for GRIN is right around the corner!

Yet again, a story of a family centring themselves in the story of Bryson’s life and experience. Reflecting on whether your actions are ableist but not actually doing anything to change your behaviour. Searching for a cure, infantilizing, fixation on “independence”, attaining a NT mind, devaluing...Read full review »

I do not have a child with the same challenges as Bryson, but having been through a long and arduous medical journey for my now-healthy daughter made me empathize with this family. These episodes are really well-paced with just enough science and humanity, both in pretty equal measure. I am...Read full review »

Thank you for telling your story. As the mother of a 15 year old and having only just received her rare genetic diagnosis I cannot tell you how many aspects of your journey resonated with me. Can’t thank you enough.

This family is incredible. I loved every single part of this series. All I kept thinking is there is such a huge theme of ‘love’ with this family - their ability to move through the highs and lows in such a vulnerable and graceful way and continue to keep searching for a cure was so beautiful to...Read full review »

I’ve been enjoying this podcast immensely. I’m about to start my career as a rural family doctor, and this podcast has been so engrossing, inspiring, and thought-provoking. When you look at Bryson you know that a lot is going on in that mind. Would love to see his brain unlocked to find out what he has to say! I am honoured to be a part of Bryson’s tribe. I have worked with children in education for 30+ years and am now a grandmother to four children. You conveyed such compassion, humility and a passion to truly help your son become more neurotypical. I have no doubt that Bryson is perfect the way he is (hugs) but anything that would make his life...Read full review »

High production value and well done, but as a person with a lifelong physical disability, there’s something about this family’s obsession with getting a “cure” makes me very uneasy and uncomfortable. I’m sorry, but this guy is not a disability advocate. He’s an ableist who is obsessed with...Read full review »

I thought this would be uplifting tale of human triumph... but episode 1 was NOT uplifting. A cold slap in the face about the reality of raising a disabled child. No moments of triumph. No humour. No spiritual insights. I hope final episode reveals a cure, but the journey to get there... if...Read full review »
