These murders received much attention by the media and a discrete group of social scientists. Siyabonga Shibe is a South African actor best known for his leading roles in the SABC1 drama series Gaz'lam (2002-2005) and Bay of Plenty, from 2007-2008. Abortion in South Africa is legal on request in the first trimester of pregnancy, and in special circumstances afterwards. Abortion was legal only under very limited circumstances until 1 February 1997, when the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act (Act 92 of 1996) came into force, providing abortion on demand for a variety of cases. Firearm-related crime has long been a feature of South African society, which has the third-highest annual rate of firearm deaths (26.8/100 000) after Colombia and Venezuela. The United States has the 28th-highest rate of deaths from gun violence in the world: 4.43 deaths per 100,000 people in 2017-far greater than what is seen in other wealthy countries. South Africa accounts for a third of all new HIV infections in southern Africa. HIV prevalence remains high, with 20.4% of people (one in five) living with HIV, however prevalence varies markedly between regions, ranging from 12.6% in Western Cape to 27% in KwaZulu-Natal.
