Dave Holmes is an amazing storyteller and the fact that his stories are more than, they are real life accounts from a life lived. Every time Dave is on the Never not funny podcast. It’s to promote something amazing and I’m glad he was to promote this.

Love Dave and his storytelling. This is a fun/nostalgic look at pop culture through the lens of MTV and how the channel evolved over the years. I hope he keeps creating and hosting shows like this. Thanks for keeping pieces my youth alive, Dave!!

Heartbreaking I worked at and within MTV for years and the in-house insight is spot on. Thank you for telling this story.

Well done! Thank you Dave for a great retrospective on a amazing time and the journey to know. It Made me miss the days of sitting with my little brother and watching videos for hours, staying up until 3am to catch that one video again, or rushing home to catch the world premier of a new video....Read full review »

I loved this, and loved the pacing and format. It made me so nostalgic; specifically for MTV News! Thank you for creating this!

What a great podcast. I tuned in every week. I grew up on MTV, like many listeners. This pod is great for the nostalgia and for people who are interested in where the media landscape has changed throughout the decades.

The podcast I’ve been waiting for! I’m sure I’m not the only one who misses the greatness that was MTV. There’s nothing better than reliving that era than with someone who was boots on the ground. Hearing Dave’s voice is so nostalgic and I love how thorough this journey back in time has been. I...Read full review »

I love this podcast. It’s more than nostalgia, although there’s nothing wrong with a little nostalgia! It’s informative, an insider’s view, and a look back at all of the ways we have changed. I never realized MTV really invented “Reality TV” even though no one realized it back then. But I do...Read full review »

There’s a kind of Baby Boomer golden glow of nostalgic thinking about this show, but it was 100% worth the listen. I didn’t connect as much with a couple of the middle episodes (just like I didn’t connect as much with MTV in that era), but I’m glad I listened to the end, which was a great wrap up.

What a great podcast! The stories took me back to a time that span well over a 20 year period. My aunt in MI had cable and MTV. We would go there frequently and watch what are now the classics, wham, boy George, Adam and the ants, etc, etc, etc. Once it finally came to our area, my sister and I...Read full review »

Since I read his well-done memoir Party Of One, I have always loved Dave’s writing. And it was clear from the first episode that he was not only hosting but writing the series. Really enjoyed this series. I ran programming at MTV from 2007 to 2009, as we were trying to wrestle with increased competition, growth of streaming platforms, and other competitive media. What a nice surprise to hear Dave tell such a great story about a gigantic chunk of my childhood and adolescence. I fell out of love with MTV right around the time he came on board, but he was one of the guys that still had gravitas and I was happy to take this journey with him.

This entire series has given me flashbacks to my youth and passion to intern and freelance for MTV. It’s helped me explain to my Gen Z colleagues what life was like working for MTV- before a phone provided you music and music videos at your finger tips. The best part is having Dave narrate the...Read full review »

Such a great & well told history of our beloved MTV! Helps shed light on the downward spiral of this once major cable channel. TRL forever!!!

This is a compelling history of youth culture via the history of MTV. It explains how the pressures of business shaped the format of the TV network that shaped GenX and Millennial sensibilities. Yet this podcast does not shy away from the racism and sexism baked into MTV,s early days.

As somebody who was there at the birth of MTV and watched it from its inception, It was always rock ‘n’ roll that carried MTV. hard rock, heavy, metal, etc. Even as it is today, it has always been rock ‘n’ roll that still continually fills the stadiums.. not hip-hop, not pop music, even Michael...Read full review »

I loved the first few episodes of this, a welcome walk down memory lane. It’s clear that the host loves reality tv because there was a lot of time spent on the Real World which was unfortunate.
