I love every character (even when I shouldn't), I feel every emotion (usually all in the same episode), & I'm pretty sure VALENCE does that by design... & there's something to be said for media that makes you reflect on yourself & how to be a better person. Please...Read full review »

An accurate depiction of mental illness that isn’t a default indicator of villainy? Well developed characters of various races, sexualities, and gender identities? Just the representation is enough to guarantee three stars. There is an amazing concept which became a brilliant plot, that earned...Read full review »

I’ve already listened to it twice. I really love all the characters, and the blend of magic/familial issues/mental health/healing themes. I will protect Liam and Flynn at all costs. Also lots of queer identities 🤙

VALENCE has some cool concepts, big ideas, and impressive actors, and I loved the character Nico, but all together the production never quote coalesces. Plot points resolve too conveniently, tension deflates when it needs to build, characters take the time to talk gently and supportively about...Read full review »

What this podcast gets right it gets so, so right. The depiction of mental health struggles is particularly incredible, and the device of having a character’s negative self talk muted in the background during stressful situations is both brilliantly true and a perfect use of the medium. A...Read full review »

Listened to this while helping my daughter with a tedious project. It really made the time fly.

Wow
The realest, most human podcast I’ve ever listened to, fiction or nonfiction- and that’s no small feat. Wonderful, fleshed out characters, paired with an immersive world, with plenty of representation for minority groups. This podcast fills me with hope.

Really good Season 1, with all story and dramatic elements in place. Contemporary urban magic capitalistic spy caper stuff, with deep relationship and psychological elements. Full sound, background music, large and great cast. Show notes, and transcripts, and website too. This production is...Read full review »

Incredible voice acting with a captivating and intriguing story! Really incredible representation of mental health, lgbt, and found family

This is important work. I think representation in stories helps broaden our worldview, and this podcast does that while remaining fun and funny. Feels truly like a communal effort. Great urban fantasy with an interesting incorporation of magic. Very relatable characters. Cannot wait for more

Story is well told. Characters are funny and well written. The podcast is one of the few that doesn’t rely on a found footage style gimmick to explain why it’s audio, it just is a story told using audio. This allows the action to feel less passive. It’s great, listen to it.

This podcast got me through a very uncertain time in my life, offering me comfort on my walks home from work pre-pandemic. It deals with tough stuff in a way that I really appreciate—sensitive yet straightforward. The actors all do an excellent job. Plus i heckin love magic. I’m not all caught up...Read full review »

Valence is a story that engages with mental illness, substance abuse, familial strife, and persecution of people with magical powers which frequently echoes the treatment of queer people in society (being abandoned by families, organizations promising to 'cure' them, etc) So it's not...Read full review »

There are some really poor editing choices as it pertains to dialgue, volumes, and where sound effects are placed. Generally the acting is poor, but my biggest criticism is the writing. The dialogue is very rough with lines like "I am with the government", there are poorly written...Read full review »

This is exactly what kind of podcast I enjoy: queer people take on capitalism and the surveillance state. The voice actors are great. The story is exciting. The characters are intriguing. It’s not perfect but what small podcast is? It’s definitely worth a try...

Love the podcast, it's such a good production and I love pretty much everything about it. Nico is probably my favorite character honestly and I'm so ready for more of him. The mental health stuff is super good and LIam's inner monologue definitely reflects a more exaggerated version...Read full review »

This podcast has great potential. It lures you into the world with its quirky, but relatable characters. It gives hints in what it wants to say. The casting is decent and the production surpasses expectations. I am looking forward to this Podcast and it’s future.

Valence does an amazing job of blending magic into an alt version of our timeline. It also doesn’t shy away from what it’s like to live with anxiety. The depiction of Liam’s inner voice of anxiety and self doubt is very well done and hits the nail on the head on what it feels like to deal with...Read full review »

Hug House's first dramatic audio production is well-worth the hype. Valence does something few other fantasy series can boast straight out the gate: it balances magic with the world of mental health and anxiety. The characters start off on the wrong foot, and by that I mean they start their...Read full review »
