Great story, not great storytelling
I think this is an amazing, and surprising, story, but imo the story telling isn’t great. Agree with other reviews that the hosts have too many “cutesy” interjections that disrupt flow of story. They are trying to be funny but often it is just corny. If they’d follow the route/pattern of other similar investigative podcast it would have been better. Thought some of the journalism could have been better. I’m from NC so when I saw varnamtown pop up I was like, no way there’s a podcast about the place we used to stop and get fresh vegetables and seafood on the way to the coast, but sure enough, and was really eager to listen. Crazy story that could have been expanded upon. Also, I thought the hosts were sort of disparaging about many of the local residents, kind of poking fun at them for being from a small, country town. Kind of off putting.

Good interesting story it seems although it seems very dragged out. About 10mins of actual listening each episode. No one wants a 9min behind the scenes each episode. Only giving it a 2 because the story itself is interesting.

The Varnamtown podcast keeps me wanting to hear more. Look forward to each new episode. Can’t wait to see where it goes from here. Seems like it would be a killer movie or Netflix series. I understand there’s a book soon to be released as well. Got mine on pre-order.

The story is super entertaining and the interviews with people that were actually there are incredible. I don’t see why the hosts feel the need to insert themselves so much other than to hear themselves talk. The banter and repetition is getting super old. Why not keep that to just strictly...Read full review »
