"Tumors All the Way Down"
I follow Sam Harris on Twitter, and he tweeted about being on the podcast. I've read most of his stuff, but I had not heard of the VBW podcast. The episode with Harris was aptly titled, "Tumors All the Way Down"--you'll just have to listen to the episode to appreciate the reference. Excellent episode. I then started back at episode 1, and I'm currently at episode 20, having listened to 19 episodes in about a week. Let's just say these guys are not your father's (or mother's) psychology and philosophy professors. Tamler and David have serious discussions about serious and interesting topics--all without taking themselves, their peers or the subject matter too seriously. I would especially recommend the podcast to people like myself. I grew up the son of Baptist minister, and I'm in my early 40's, having only recently come to realize the ridiculousness of religion. I'm no psychology or philosophy major, but I do have an MBA, which is not that impressive; however, I think there are probably many people out there like me, who would enjoy this podcast. Give it a listen. One more thing: I'd like to ask the guys if they've ever heard of the "Christian" philosopher, William Lane Craig, especially now that he's in Tamler's backyard (Houston Baptist). I saw him debate Sam Harris at Notre Dame and wondered if you thought any of his argument a for god's existence were worth discussing? --MarkRead full review »

I was hooked right away by the hilarious chemistry between these two friends. An informal dialog between an experimental psychologist and a philosopher is a terrific way to explore these topics that is both enlightening and accessible. Must find poop jokes funny, though.

I can't believe I hadn't heard of this podcast before! I'm a grad student in evolutionary psych, so this stuff is right my alley. Perfect balance of fascinating discussions and irreverent humor. Never dumbs things down or condescends. This is an extremely entertaining way to digest...Read full review »
