I used to really enjoy Sams writings - back in 2004 I thought End of Faith was a very lucid and important book about the harmful role religion plays in society. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much new content from Sam these past ten years, save a few cheap thought experiments about morality, freewill, and meditation, and a disproportionate focus on Islamic fundamentalism as the #1 threat to civilization when this clearly misses out on a large part of the story. He constantly sneers at his critics - such as people like Glenn Greenwald, but never addresses the specifics of the ground breaking work Glenn is doing over at The Intercept everyday that begins to full in the parts of the story that Sam always leaves out of his narrative (for example, how the FBI entraps young muslims into trying to commit terrorist acts - you would think that if Islamic fundamentalism was such a large threat they wouldn’t need to resort to these tactics). Sam Harris is also a gun fanatic, a torture apologist, and an advocate of racial profiling. One star may be a little bit too harsh, since some of the stuff that Sam says about religion is undoubtedly true. But if you only listen to Sam you will only get a highly distorted sense of what is really happening from someone who clearly hasn’t rooted out his biases.

Without a doubt, this is the first podcast I listen to. If there's a new episode of Waking Up, it moves atop my queue without fail.Read full review »

I am amazed by how Sam's well organised thoughts on one or multiple matters can simply change one’s perspectives and see the world in a new light. You just need to listen carefully, that’s it. 100% recommended!Read full review »
