I think he sounds like Egon Spangler and maybe that’s the attraction! But either way🤣 he tells a good story! Could he be more…. Story Telly …yes But when he DOES emote… it’s hysterical so I wouldn’t change a thing! Three outta five stars… IYKYK

Found this show a while back and the host takes a in depth look at historical events with solid content but with a relatable and hilarious humorous perspective. Enjoy the learning and the laughs

Neil Eckart is the Neil deGrasse Tyson of Crusades 1-3.

Love everything - great subjects, research, delivery, etc. Amazing. On a side note, he blasts loud music before and after, so you can’t listen to it to fall asleep. Which would have been nice.

Pleasantly surprised at just how much I’ve been enjoying this excellent podcast. Outstanding job by Mr. Eckart in presenting his material in an informative & sometimes humorous manner, as if talking to a group of friends. 10/10 history podcast imo, doesn’t take itself too seriously while providing all the crucial information. Love the humour, love the content, I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone with even a minor interest in history

Neil does a great job of bringing these old stories to life - lots of podcasts get bogged down in minutiae, but this one keeps the story rolling without getting lost in the weeds. It’s been fun to watch the podcast get to the point it’s at. Thanks for the great show!

There is no history podcast like it. This is real histotainment. Neil is authentic, humble and a good witty story teller. War and Conquests covers many topics with in depth multi part series going into depth. Personally I enjoyed the siege of Rhodes/Malta a lot.

Neil is the biggest dork I’ve never meet, and I love it. Great podcast, doesn’t get too in the weeds and is a great over view of some pretty cool historical events. Hope this nerd can keep making his badass podcast. Adrian, also from Tasmania.

I love this show! He brings a fresh perspective to the world a history podcasts, some great color commentary, and an awesome sense of humor. I’ve listed to all of Mike Duncan, most of Dan Carlin, and parts of several other history podcasts. This one is right up there with the best!

Although I’m used to podcasts that go very in-depth over particular time (History of Rome, History of Byzantium), I have thoroughly enjoyed the amount of topics our host has been able to cover. He is concise and injects an amount of humour into the story that always has me coming back. his...Read full review »

Just started listening a few months ago and I haven’t stopped. I enjoy his views and work out in to be accurate. Keep up the great work! Dan would be proud.

Good podcast, plenty of facts along with jokes and fresh insight. Not so much Dan Carlin, more like a rock n roll version of Mike Duncan.

I was listening and enjoying this podcast until he decided to start playing some godawful music. I mean it's a major distraction. So, that's it and I'm dumping this podcast. Too bad, because I really enjoyed the early episodes. Egos....Read full review »

I broadcasted Neils bounteous, juicy voice to my 1st grade class and they love it. At this point it just entirely replaces my history lessons. Yesterday, one of my students came in with a 69 page thesis on the socioeconomic ramifications of Alexander’s reforms in Susa, all thanks to this...Read full review »

I’m specifically writing a review after listening to the season 9 review - where Neil eviscerates some guy, by name, for leaving a bad review after getting his panties in a wad. I about died from laughter. Neil is hilarious and I really enjoy the sarcasm, dark humor, and pop culture references...Read full review »

Went with the Captain Morgan Spicy Rum 2 parts, 1 part mango pulp, 2 parts OJ with a squeeze of lime. Very good The Rock (the other one) Neil Eckart is back to his best. If you’ve ever looked at the guy cutting your grass and said I bet he can teach me about history, then this show is for you. Neil says a bunch of stuff in the early episodes about audio and recording quality. But I don’t see a real problem. I like the pacing and the rawness. Terrible screeching music at the beginning of every episode, although he does good commentary I would prefer it to be impartial as he shows extreme bias and will take every opportunity to tell you which side he supports(spoiler it’s whoever is against the ottomans) and his tendency to go off on...Read full review »

Neil has to be one of the most candid and loose history podcasters I’ve ever listened too. He’s very funny while also sticking to the facts. Neil is pretty entertaining while still delivering great info on historic battles, armies and storylines. Topics are well researched, but he isn’t afraid to add his own commentary. He lets you know when he does, though.
