The "Saint's Row the Third" of Podcasts
I currently listen to two comics-based podcasts, Word Balloon and WRA. To use an analogy you will probably understand, if WB is the GTA of comics podcasts, WRA is definitely the Saints Row. Hosts Chris Sims and Matt Wilson create a playful, friendly atmosphere that, while often silly and irreverent, also features some of the best comics criticism and creator interviews around. Even when I don't agree with them, both hosts offer well thought-out and passionate criticisms of comics, video games, barbacue and other nerdy endeavors. One of my favorite segments is the montly re-cap of the awful new Johns/Lee Justice League title which always makes me laugh. The interviews with creators are also fantastic, even for guests that I am not familiar with. Also, one of the high points of the show are the theme shows, such as the ridiculously hilarious Christmas episodes (I'm still laughing at Matt Fraction's rendition of Jingle Bells from a few years ago). In fact, I only have two real complains about this show: 1. Sometimes the Grant Morrison worship is a bit mutch for me and 2. The "Big ups to all my haters" segment is not on the show as frequently as I would like. Bottom line: I listen to this podcast every week, and so should you.Read full review »
