Fragrant Odyssey
Before I listened to this podcast I never washed my butt. If people didn't want to hang out with me because I had a smelly butt, then it was their loss. My insulation from the closed minded and intolerant assured my purity as an artist. Or so I believed. When I listened to the first episode of Welcome to LA and was magically transported into a yacht full of exotic strangers spewing trippy music and precariously drifting into almost certain death, the first cracks in my dirty butt philosophy began to blossom. What allowed David Weinberg to leave his comfortable life in St. Louis to throw himself into the wild garden of his LA dreams? How was it that he could seamlessly intertwine his own story with the dreams of other sonic innovators and still arrive at his own unique destination? What secret let him so effortlessly capture such strange magic in his microphone and ferment it into immaculately curated truth? As the episode came to a close with Weinberg safely back in port smoking a joint and peering out hopefully at his first Angelino sunset, the answer hit me: maybe this guy washes his butt. Maybe I should was mine. As I stand before my bathtub with a bar of soap in one hand and my phone in the other, prepared to embark on a new and fragrant odyssey, I carry much trepidation. But thanks to David Weinberg and Welcome to LA, I also carry much hope.Read full review »
