Cancel culture (or call-out culture) is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles—whether it be online, on social media, or in person. Those who are subject to this ostracism are said to have been "canceled.” But is this constructive? Have we overcorrected? Should we be canceling voices or attempting to educate them? That is the question.

In another episode inspired by TikTok content, this week we’re talking about purity culture: What it is, our experiences with it, what it gets wrong…and does it get anything right? Why are Christians so obsessed with sex, anyway?

A new year = new podcast updates! While we took 2020 to kick this baby off, we spent December and January reflecting on what we’ve talked about, what we want to talk about, and how to make each episode more accessible to YOU, our listeners and friends. INTRODUCING: Verticals Going forward, each episode will be categorized into 1 of 5 verticals so you know exactly what broader umbrella that episode falls under. They say you only know who your partner is when you’ve gone through the worst of times with them. We can safely say an international pandemic is one of the absolute worst of times. Some relationships are thriving. Some are crumbling. Some are taking it day by day and not placing judgment on how each member of a relationship are dealing with it. But one question’s for sure: How the hell are we making it at all (or not….)? This week, Brittany is celebrating her 14th wedding anniversary and her...

Hi, hello, Holidays, weren’t you here just 3 months ago? WHAT A WASH this year has been. Now that Christmas is upon us once again, this week we’re diving into our religious family traditions growing up and what our traditions look like now—if at all. We also weigh in on the objectively best Christmas song and if you disagree with us you just can’t because, like we said, it’s OBJECTIVE. Take a trip down Christmas Candy Cane Memory Lane with us as these 2 Grinches reminisce and try to find...

It’s been 6 weeks since we’ve talked at you, and boy has a lot happened. On our 29th episode, Brittany and Tiffany are filling you in on why we went mum for a bit, plus sharing our thoughts on the world’s most powerful women ( the VP elect and Bachelorette, of course). It’s good to be back. Let’s keep making some hell.

If we were to look up the definition of the word passion in the dictionary, we wouldn’t have presupposed the 2nd entry would have religious connotations. But alas, it does, we cannot escape our pasts. Ha! Passion is something we struggle with to some extent. Do we have it? Do we have enough of it? What the hell…even…IS it? This week on the show, we’re doing our best to get to the bottom of those questions the best way we know how: with a secondhand internet quiz, of course. Want to...

We weren’t the only one asking “What the hell?!” this week! Our conversation in episode 24 of what we were raised to believe led into episodes 25 and 26 where we talked about how we began to and have deconstructed our faiths to date. On episode 27, Brittany and Tiffany are reacting to your reactions, and also sharing the reactions you wrote into us and the questions and thoughts the shows triggered. Tune in to see if we covered yours. And as always, thank you for the interactions,...

WOW. Thank you so much for your positive and challenging responses to episodes 24 and 25! In episode 24, we explained what the hell we were taught to believe about God, faith, and Christianity, and in episode 25, Brittany took us through the life markers that have radically changed her POV. If you haven’t listened yet, head back to those before listening to episode 26. On this week’s episode, it’s Tiffany’s turn. From a crisis of science to a crisis of logic to a crisis of social issues and...

At long last…. Brittany’s story. Of belief, disbelief, and deconstruction. As promised, we’re 2 besties questioning life since the ’80s. …And now publicly questioning it since 2020. On the last episode, we described a lot of the major tenets we were taught to believe growing up protestant evangelical Christian Pentecostals. Now we’re getting into Brittany’s experience: what she doesn’t believe anymore and some of the whys…the questions that started popping up and the answers she started...

All right, folks. This whole “pandemic” and “State of Emergency” doesn’t seem to be going anywhere (the quotations are really a double sarcastic joke because there quite literally IS a pandemic and a State of Emergency and, you see, the joke is there without the quotation marks but when you tack them on it’s a double helping, you see?) so we decided it’s finally time to circle back to how and why we started this podcast to begin with: We are two 30-something-year-old women who were born and...

It took these 2 white women our entire lives to learn about Juneteenth, its significance, historical implications—even its EXISTENCE. This week on the pod, we’re breaking down just a few of the elements of the Black Lives Matter movement we have been ignorant to and poorly educated on and some of the ways we’re going to try to do better and know more. Our hearts are heavy with our black friends and family members and communities. We are white. We are sorry for our silent “non-racism.” And...

We weren’t so much aware of it when it was happening…but, boy, are we now. The Satanic Panic of the 1980s and 1990s has reached almost iconic status for news-lovers, counterculture followers, true crime fiends, and so-called backslidden Christians peering through the looking glass of time and space. On our 20th episode of What the Hell?! we’re talking about birth control, our experiences with it, when we started and why, and some of the more controversial types (or is it) we’ve dabbled in (cough, Plan B, cough) plus of course covering all the reasons we need it…and despise it. On the list of Necessary Evils, you’re pretty high, BC.

We learned it in Sunday school…the body is a temple. So does that make our faces the steeple? (If this doesn’t prompt you to interlace you’re fingers, flip them upside down, wiggle them around and exclaim “Where’s all the people!,” do you even Jesus?) On this episode of What the Hell, we’re breaking down our skincare routines and giving you the DL on not only our top picks from skin to eyes to lips, but also touching on the why of our regimens, our skin insecurities, and what we think men...

Welp, Brittany and Tiffany took a week off…or was it a year? What is time anymore, TBQH. We don’t know. But what we do know is the headlines these past 2 weeks from the rich, the famous, and the otherwise have been notable, at least for the time being. We’re covering everything from Tik Tok dances to the Be Kind Kween Ellen De Generes’s public backlash to the best trash TV around, and YOU are cordially invited.

Oh haiiiiiiii, me. It’s really nice to see you and only you for the last 2+ weeks. Haven’t had enough of you, TELL ME EVERYTHING!!! *CRINGE* At this point we’re honestly pretty sick of ourselves so we’re at least trying to be productive by intentionally and sometimes accidentally learning new things! From how to store perishable vegetables for insane lengths of time to homeschooling and no-more underestimating the importance of sunshine, Brittany and Tiffany are filling each other in on all...

We’re experiencing the first international pandemic (redundant?) of our generation and this week we’re hitting on the ways our first-world lives have changed, what we’re doing to cope with quarantine, and the ways we hope to positively change our lifestyles when we’re able to get back to our lifestyles. Episode 14 is all about our current twilight zones, a little touch on the rapture and the mark of the beast, and our new norms…for now.

People talk a lot about regrets and in a certain way that is what this episode is about. But there’s more to it than that. At some point or another you’ve probably been asked the question, “If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would it be?” Yet today our challenge is to apologize to our younger usses. What do we owe our past selves a giant “I’m sorry” for? (This goes beyond Tiffany’s Kelly Clarkson bleach blonde stripes of 2002, just FYI).) What did we do to us—or...

Old habits die hard. When we hit our 20s and moved away from home, we both still kept going to church, immersing ourselves in the Christian culture we always knew. Brittany went to a Christian university and Tiffany didn’t. But we both still kept Christianity close by finding a way to make our doubts fit into our belief system…. Until 👏🏼 we 👏🏼 backslid. (Definition included in episode. 😉)
