“I was an active evangelist for this show when I discovered its first few episodes, particularly the amazing story by Sandy about her first date being a week-long trip to Costa Rica. The show had real emotional heft and authenticity.
Unfortunately, Andrea has indulged a lot of fictional characters on the show, such as the mysoginistic "Randy" and parody of a narcissistic feminist, "Holly Wood. " (Randy was at least entertaining in a cringeworthy way that provoked real insights into sad and lonely men).
I miss when the show focused on real people. Andrea is brilliant in real interactions with human beings and has a knack for getting embarassing, funny and comforting insights out of thoughtful people. Her creative talents also make for good comedy from a real place (such as the three "practice dates" in a recent episode.)
Unfortunately, the show's forays into imaginary characters, particularly such annoying ones, has dragged the show down from the potential it showed in early episodes.”Read full review »
