Introducing: The Coast That Shaped the World

Description
If you love stories about the Scottish coast, The Coast That Shaped The World is an app full of audio stories that I think you might enjoy! The Coast that Shaped the World, or simply Coast, is a gathering of stories reflecting and celebrating the people, communities, heritage, culture and environment of the west coast and islands of Scotland. More than 30 local story gatherers spent a good part of the pandemic to collect over 1,300 stories about a great variety of coastal subjects. The aim of the project was to get local communities involved in telling their own stories, and to allow those of us who are interested in listening to learn about lesser-known areas, the characters who inhabit them and parts of history that are that don’t always get the attention they deserve. The app features many of the stories that were collected, some background about the storytellers who donated them and a map to help you connect the stories to their place of origin. But the part that I’m most excited about is the audio section of the app where you can listen to recordings of stories from all over the west coast. This episode features five of my favourite stories from the app. The Coast That Shapes the World app is available on the App Store and on Google Play and is completely free of charge. Listen to my stories that I mentioned in the episode:  Lullaby (Isle of Tiree)Of Stacks & Stones (Isle of Canna)Day and Night (Isle of Coll)Wild Isle (Isle of Mull)In Tune (Galloway Coast)Never The Same (Oban & Fort William)This episode was created in partnership with The Coast That Shaped the World, a project of the University of Highlands and Islands.
