Good storytelling so far but...
I have listened to the first two eps and the story has been compelling so far. But I sincerely hope that we will be hearing from some musicologists or cultural historians specializing in music in future episodes. There is a vast field of research regarding music and propaganda, music and the Cold War, etc. There are scholars that can speak to these topics; they would not be surprised at all that music was used in these ways and they would be able to offer comparable examples from different places and points in history. They would also be able to offer analytical insights on the song itself, what qualities define it, set it apart, the relationship between music and lyrics, the memorable qualities of the performance and recording. I hope these insights are forthcoming in the later episodes.

Whether it be Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, or MLK, you can expect to get a flattened image of real people,...Read full review »
