I’ve loved learning from this podcast and I will wholeheartedly be feeling the loss of it in my routine. Thank you to the Work Appropriate Team for their incredible work and candidness.

Gem
This podcast is a gem. This is literally career coaching with a warm hug.

I was really struggling in my work life and found this pod at the perfect time. A lot of the topics AHP and her guests discussed allowed me to percolate on my own issues. (The self-confidence ep with Josh Gondelman was the first one I listened to and hoo boy! It was so great.) Feels like a good...Read full review »

This podcast quickly became a favorite of mine. I like the conversational format and the blend of funny humans, seasoned experts, and combos of the two! AHP is empathetic and honest, with a perspective on the world and skills for discernment that are just top notch.

Please stop perpetuating the “HR is not there for you” perception.

Every episode has had a segment I can relate to. It’s cynically nice to hear other people considering the same situations. A verification I’m not alone in my frustrations and good soul food for thought on how to continue my personal growth in both my professional and personal life.

As a mid-career woman who has encountered and grappled with many of the same issues addressed on the podcast, I listen to many episodes multiple times. Anne has amazing guests and fabulous content. Love how she doesn’t shy away from hard or awkward topics!

While this is mostly for the American market there is so much info in these episodes for managers. How to have difficult conversations, support staff, maintain relationships and boundaries within a workplace. I don’t work in any of the industries covered this far but I still work on the daily...Read full review »

Every episode is helpful, insightful and compassionate. The episode on nonprofits resonates deeply. Thank you!

Def a podcast skewed towards “the right kind of white people”. Would love to see interaction with working class issues that didn’t just circle back to weak “enlightened” platitudes but we know that Anne and her elite college cohort could never.

Did I really hear the host & guest joke that the reason they don't like inappropriate touch at work is because "we're WASPs"? I'm Jewish, and I viscerally felt that as an antisemitic comment. I don't like inappropriate touch in the workplace either! WASPs don't...Read full review »

She’s so sensible, her guests are often hilarious, and the questions and responses are so deeply loved, researched, and informed by common sense. I really, really appreciate the broad set of backgrounds her guests represent as well. I’m genuinely thankful for this podcast.

Anne Helen Petersen’s insights on the problems of passion jobs helped me to realize that the work I loved was also draining me and I was on my way to burning out. I had worked in various management and sales roles in fine dining restaurants and resorts my whole career. I can’t count the number of...Read full review »

I’ve read Culture Study in the past as well as Petersen’s other writings on work and life but it’s enjoyable to hear her in conversation with guests who offer different insights. I really recommend it!

Fascinating conservations even when they’re talking about an I did try or field I have nothing to do with. I have found many relatable tips and stories and love their approach to answering listener submissions.

I’ve loved Anne Helen’s writing since her “Scandals of Classic Hollywood” column, and hearing her podcast be similarly excellent is a real treat. As someone who works from home, and is a fan of so many of her guests (two eps with Josh Gondleman?!), this podcast is a must listen during my breaks....Read full review »

I so appreciate this podcast because it doesn’t make me miserable even when thinking about work and it makes me feel not alone !

The hosts and guests clearly have an issue with white men. They somehow find a way to point back to this demographic as the end all root cause of every caller question. And if nothing else, please stop using “Like” and “Literally” every other word.

Any chance of a weekly spinoff featuring JG? Tentative title “work feelings”?

I’m a 25 year old whose industry was overturned during the pandemic. I’m working a stability job and trying to go back into my field, and this podcast is so helpful in speaking towards professional life and trends, especially in your early career and life. I look forward to episodes every week!

Love Anne Helen Petersen. Love the sound of AHP’s voice, and the great guests on the show. Also, I love the music!

The show is enjoyable and has a lot of good points but it’s clearly pointed at office culture and that doesn’t apply to my specific work situation so it’s hard to get into it on a good deal of episodes.

I would mainline this topic if I could! Several topics I’d be keen to see covered: 1) how to get back into the world of work and/or discover the color of your parachute after a long period out of rotation, (eg caretaker, childcare stay at-homer). Especially as someone older. 2) how to know when...Read full review »

This is all information presented in a way that is simple, often too simple and disorganized, and not by an expert with a degree in organizational psychology or anything else related to managing relationships. She is so brilliant! I’m learning so much already.
