“I hate-listen to this podcast. I love the subject matter, but Karina Longworth does a disservice to herself and the rest of us by narrating with her uniquely flat tones, maddening pronunciations and mangling of the English language. (It’s not endearing the way an NPR host’s voice can be.) It sounds like affectation — that of a prissy, white schoolgirl who’s trying to educate us. Worst is when she tries to do voices. Seriously, it’s like listening to your friend’s kid stand up and recite while you’re in the midst of a deep conversation. And the proclamation at the end… “this show was written and narrated by Karina Longworth. That’s me…” It’s not cute, it’s juvenile. Further, her pseudo- feminism is denuded by the fact that sometimes she’s on a soapbox about how women were treated in H’wood back then, but other times she’s making fun of the very women she’s highlighting. Way to undermine your premise. It’s best when she’s regurgitating facts. It’s unfortunate when she feels the need to editorialize on them. I preferred Karina Longworth in print. Now that I’ve heard her voice I just want to punch her in the face.”
