“I love the show, especially on YouTube where it’s fun to see your facial expressions when you play musical examples to illustrate what you’re talking about. It’s great to hear two high level musicians like yourself share your thoughts about music. Guitar is my main instrument and one topic I would love to hear your thoughts about is piano and guitar playing together. I think it’s often an underrated combination, in a duo setting as well as in a trio or quartet. Some musicians seem to overlook how great they can sound together if you only listen to each other and learn to blend in tastefully. For example in a duo setting I like to play basic 2 or 3 note voicings in the lower register when the pianist plays more complex voicings in the higher register with more half and whole notes. I love to comp a piano solo laying down a good pocket adding some bass lines. Then the pianist can play more in the lower register when I play the melody or a solo etc. It can easily get quite orchestral even as a duo.
By the way, your 7 favorite lists are kind of addicting. How about a list of your favorite musicians playing piano and guitar together?”
