Medicine for the Soul
This podcast is an amazing body of work that I've listened to religiously now for the past two weeks on my morning and afternoon commute. I'm a huge fan of the Matheny Manifesto and agree that the joy of youth sports has been eroded by overzealous parents and bad coaching. The show is entertaining and informative, don't get me wrong. But at its core, the show is a call to action for every parent involved in youth sports, baseball or otherwise, to look in the mirror and ask yourself what kind of parent/coach do you want to be remembered as. Baseball is an unforgiving sport beset by constant failure. In a way, it's a metaphor for life and how we deal with adversity. Be careful, baseball does more than build character..more often than not, it reveals it. So word to the wise, get with the program and open your mind to reality that parenting is tough and so much can go wrong so quickly if you aren't careful. Kids hear and remember everything, especially the ride home after the game. So don't take your frustrations out on your kid - show them how to accept defeat and failure and be the right kind of champion your kid needs you to be.Read full review »
