Too much filler garbage, not enough podcaster
I am a *h*u*g*e* fan of Mike Duncan and so I was excited to hear that he was going to participate in what sounded to be a promising history podcast. I listened to the first podcast, about Nixon, by Dan Carlin and thought it was distinctly mediocre. There were too many sound effects, cut aways to speaches & etc. But, I thought, that's just Carlin's style. Then came the Duncan episode and I was sorely disappointed. There are sound effects, (poorly) dramatized readings and break-aways galore. I am interested in hearing Duncan talk about Washington, not fifteen-seconds of musket-shots over dramatic music (repeatedly). Part of the point of a joint effort, like this podcast, is to introduce listeners to the styles of other podcasters, not cram the disparate podcasters into a single (frankly bad) format. Nonetheless, I give it two stars because I'd give Duncan reading the phone book at least two stars.Read full review »

Completely distracting. Had to turn it off after a few minutes.

The opening episode on Richard Nixon is superbly crafted and very educational. I was interested in the genius and enormous flaws of the man and the way the story is told brings this to life. Looking forward to hearing more from Mike Duncan on the second episode.
