13 Minutes to the Moon
I am born 1966, right into the times of space race and my father, being an engineer in basic research in Switzerland, was following the Apollo program with enthusiasm. It was the mood that I was born into, the omnipresent cold war cloud was hanging over us throughout my early childhood, that culminated for me personally in 1977, when I was an 11 years old boy. My dad had left my mother, sister and I for half a year to live in the US, where he was working in Princeton on a particle accelerator, together with some guys of the very team that had previously built the LEM, (Lunar landing Module) for NASA. Every now and then my father had sent us tapes back to Switzerland with his recorded voice telling us about his experiences abroad. He talked about a thing called “Star Wars”, a cool film he had just seen and that we would definitely go see together during our upcoming holiday visit to America. In the hot summer of 77, right after watching George Lukas’s first science fiction episode “A new hope” together with my dad, I was playing “Star Wars” with the kids of the LEM engineers at our BBQ party in the garden around our house... The BBC podcast with its first episode “beamed” me right back to this mood on our planet at the beginning of my life, where humankind dared to travel to the moon in a “tin can”. I love it and I can’t wait to go trough the whole series together with you!!!

The BBC provides a very unique angle on the Apollo program, with lots of info on the not so behind the scenes work of mission control and others. The production quality is amazing and the host does a great job. The story is centered around the final 13 minutes of the lunar module’s harrowing, and...Read full review »

So pleased with this series so far. Fifty years ago I was totally taken up by the flight that I even gave my daughter a middle name of Armstrong when she was born during the voyage. I followed every minute and had even got copies of some NASA flight Manuela etc. Despite all of this 13 minutes to...Read full review »
