Dear Beeb: enough with the celeb angle!!
First of all this is an interesting show and I have genuinely learned stuff I didn’t know from episode one alone. But .... as with all mainstream BBC shows the producer has to dumb it down. Firstly, even though I have ALREADY DOWNLOADED the show, several minutes are spent telling me what the show is about and what will be in said show. Guys, I do have an attention span that lasts one hour already. Next, as with all mainstream BBC shows, we have the celebrity angle. Kevin tells us about his life at NASA (very interesting but not relevant) and what it all means to him. Personally. The narrative only starts at minute 13(!) with Sputnik. After that it’s a good show and Kevin is a very good presenter when he is allowed to just tell the story. But BBC producers: please watch some Anthony Bourdain. It’s about the narrative not the celeb presenter. And if I have downloaded the show and started listening already: then just tell me the damn story, don’t spend 10 minutes telling me why I should keep listening!
