Eye opening
This reporting has me reflecting on conversations with friends and family from East LA I had growing up. I thought it was all jokes when it was said, "The police in our neighborhoods shoot first and ask questions later." It's wild to me how common place and normalized police violence is that we don't recognize it when it's right in front of our faces. We see someone getting shot in back or brutalized in some other way and the immediate assumption is "they did something to deserve it." Thank you, Cerise, for balancing the scales by boldly giving us the other side of the story. State sanctioned violence should never be tolerated against our communities and the fact that we (taxpayers) pay for it is mind-boggling.Read full review »

Thank you for everything you do to help fight this corruption. We need to tell each other our stories. We need to show that everyone — our neighbors, our families, our community leaders — everyone we know is touched by corruption.
