This show started out well enough, but it seems to be moving in some kind of weird right-wing direction – maybe this is an occupational hazard with classicists?

I really like your Podcast. Never been much into Ethics, but you deliver a format that drags me in, broadens my horizon and gets me to think. Thank you!

I love the in depth interviews on special topics. I’ve listened to lots of general history podcasts that just give textbook summaries of battles and great men. This podcast goes into the weeds on big ideas of history and philosophy and really gets me thinking.

Nothing stuffy about this but neither is it below academic research standards. The guests are exceptional and the host always seems to get the best out of them. Truly excellent!

I have found you podcast fantastic & hope there are more to come.

A solid podcast but I feel like it switches from history to philosophy after the initial episodes and it’s never properly addressed. It’d be nice to avoid false advertisement.

If you want to get a grasp on Plato this is the place to go.

Dr. Jack’s recent dialogue with John Vervaeke on the Forms, the Matrix, and AI is one of the single best podcast episodes I have ever had the pleasure to overhear. Very thought provoking and very enriching. I am so grateful to have access to such enlightening dialogue. Dr. Jack is very well...Read full review »

The host has a great ability to make points vivid to a contemporary audience. This is combined with scholarly rigor, often in the form of discussions with experts. Occasional disagreements aside (did Kant seek to argue for morality by pointing out positive consequences that come from it?), this...Read full review »

I love the interviews and discussions regarding Plato. Very informative and engaging

Among the several "ancient history" podcasts, this one really stands out. I usually start, having read the title and blurb, think, "I know about this..." Then I learn something new, often, often a lot that's new - to me. I wish I could mark this as a "most favorite"...Read full review »

Great to have such an eclectic mix of material. Such great contributors and Jack seems to bring the best out of each and opens new horizons of thought. This latest series on The Republic has served up Plato as a voice with contemporary resonance much as the Antikythera Mechanism leaves you...Read full review »

Loved the recent Polybius episode, gave me a new appreciation. I’ve been listening happily since 2020 and embarrassingly am only now writing a review. Thank you!

There’s no short summary that can do justice to the outstanding podcast Jack delivers. Whether interviewing subject matter experts or flying solo, he’s always at the top of his game in every detail. I particularly enjoy the times when he challenges current orthodoxy relating to one of his...Read full review »

Greetings from Sweden! I downloaded the app just to leave you a rap, a rhyme like you said even though my brain feels slight dead, it’s autumn and cold we’re depressed and I feel old. I love your podcast a lot please never stop❤️

I could listen and listen, over and over, again and again, yet never seize learning. Love the topics, the thoroughness, the voice, the rhythm, the relatedness to current concepts and events, the guests, and the knowledge building of this podcast. It’s not just the Greeks, it’s not just ancient...Read full review »

I’ve listened to every single episode and I love this podcast. The person who left this podcast a 1 star for being “too progressive” is being ridiculous.

I am really bothered by the latest interview. I have been with this podcast since the third show came out and I really liked it. It was very in-depth and had really interesting conversations. However the progressive mindset has become noticeable in the interviews. What I mean is...Read full review »

Inebriated with their own convictions. Sadly, too adolescent for my taste. The comparison with the ancient Greeks to the Romans—“The Roman’s were engineers.” Even in my ignorance—so were the Greeks, and they were mathematicians and architects. There are better podcasts on the classics for me; the...Read full review »

…But more than the rhymes I value his clear discussion of the most complex and challenging ideas from the ancient texts. I learn so much from him and can’t wait for the next podcast!

I was looking for a show about Greek mythology. I came across this show. And I’ve just been listening to it ever since then. I even have some thoughts on reading the republic! I loved how the host develops his arguments effectively. He is a professional. I hope this show just goes on forever.

More than just flyover of ancient history, Lantern Jack reveals the timeless mystery, that is relative to the real world today, in philosophy and play. And he likes rhymes too :-)
PaintingFlowersWithKevin via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/22/22
This podcast makes ancient Greek literature and culture accessible and familiar. Without compromising the integrity of ancient Greek ideas, the host presents these ideas succinctly and allows the listener to place them in the context of the contemporary world. I listen to Ancient Greece Declassified on a regular basis. Jack does a great job of demonstrating how the classics are relevant to today. I have particularly enjoyed his series on Plato’s Republic. Oh, also love the ending music.

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts, so I enjoy when I get a new episode of Ancient Greece Declassified in my feed.
