Astronomy Cast - What A Gift
I am a fan of PBS and Nova science shows. Watched them for years along with those great documentaries by Heather Couper. I found the TV shows to be entertaining. My purpose was to experience the enjoyment of the visuals and the passion of the narration. Your podcasts are fantastic because of the PACING and the REPETITION. Your words are more than entertainment. Through them I am learning. Because of the foundation I will be able to comprehend other science podcasts (Quirks and Quarks, The Naked Scientists, New Scientist) and grow in knowledge. I wish I were theistic and god appointed me to interrogate each newly dead, "The Absolute One gave you the earth and the heavens and eighty years. If you learned nothing of their dimension, their beauties, if you pondered not their intricacies and ways of working in all those eighty years, why should we beset you with paradise? What good would an opportunity for eternal questing, wonderment and sharing be to one who did not bother to see, touch, smell and hear the earth, water, sun and families of suns." Yes, I'd like to hear what people have to say about the 80 years of privilege and whether they've proved they could make use of infinite time and an unjourneyed universe of new waterways, new lands, microscopic singularities and macroscopic entanglements. I'd like to hear If they were too busy making a buck and one-upping the neighbours. I'd say, "The Absolute One understands you missing the point for twenty years, thirty years, forty years but It believes that beyond forty years you must chosen the vanities of your appearance, the pride in your breeding or possessions over consciousness of the world. You didn't miss the point of life. You ignored it. Step to one side. Make room for the eager. Wait in the foyer and don't ask questions. It's certainly what you're used to." Thanks to you, Frasier and Pamela, I'm forever formulating better questions. Keep up the great work, Surrey, British Columbia PS. Your work will lead to a citizenry that realizes you can't choose biological and physical theories by popular vote. Who would vote for a 13.7 billion year old universe? -- what a cumbersome inelegant number. Let's come up with something tasteful from tribal lore and take a new vote.Read full review »
