Ya Know’?
Katharine, First - thank you for your excellent work. Really interesting topics. However, I’ve noticed that you’re using the ‘ya Know’ gap filler a lot...a real lot. Not as much as other journalists but a lot nevertheless. This minor speech impediment is not confined to you. Adam Morton was much worse is a recent podcast you hosted. Other afflicted journalists are Phil Coorey (really bad at this, Samantha Maiden, David Speers (increasingly), Chris Kenny, Annika Smethurst and Laura Tingle (only on podcasts - not when she’s reading from a script on 7.30). Please listen to a couple of your past podcasts (especially the one with Adam Morton). You’ll know what I mean. I used to tell my students at UniSA that the PRESENTATION of a message is as important as the CONTENT. If the message isn’t delivered professionally then some of the message is lost. Again, thanks for the great podcasts Katharine. Much appreciated.

Interesting and informed discussion of the week that was, from two of Australia's most respected journalists. Analysis that cuts beyond the three word slogan for the greater forces at play. Highly recommended.Read full review »
