The topics, natural sound, and education are still top notch. But I miss the tone of the show previously. It might not be their fault (maybe the writing?) but the current hosts’ sound like they’re narrating a Disney channel show. It ends up feeling like a mismatch with the topics and BBC earth...Read full review »

Fascinating stories of the natural world

I really enjoyed the fist few series but the newest one is just a very different style. Nothing against the presenters just so different and not as relaxing and feels more for children.
Crei4 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 10/26/23
Do listen to the first three series, which are excellent but skip the most recent one. The new presentation style is better suited to children than adults - I want to hear about nature, not the presenters’ childhood memories of cheesebread!

You may thank you ugly animals shouldn’t be alive .what they look like. but not what they do for the environment. it’s really changing my life for animals, in nature that look ugly. but what matters the really Beautiful on the inside. some of the most of the animals are so cute on the inside they...Read full review »

Love this one! Grateful to discover this podcast❤️

I used to love this podcast and have stopped listening because it is no longer interesting. I think the presenting style is not right for a nature podcast - Emily Knight, however, was spot on. Presenters are great but not a good fit for this at all.

I miss the old format which would bring stories from around the world from genuine people with real life stories. Now we have to listen to two young Americans talking about their own minimal life experiences. This used to be 5 stars, now only one star!

I used to love listening to the BBC Earth podcast, but am not keen on the new presenting style. Previously the series had a mindful, intimate and calm atmosphere with great storytelling. It now has a very different feel that isn’t for me with American pop culture references and banter that seem...Read full review »

Fantastic podcast with brilliant hosts! Thank you BBC team.

I don’t often write reviews but felt it was necessary given the change in format and presenters. I only recently started listening and the stark contrast in style when you’re listening back to back was jarring. Bring back Emily and Becky.

Emily knight and the previous format was beautiful, relaxing escapism. Thank you Emily and everyone who made the earlier series for all your work - it was a real life raft during the pandemic for me! This new format is.. um.. fine?

I’m having to change my review from 5 to 1 stars. I have nothing against the new presenters and think they are doing a good job objectively. However, this new format isn’t the show I originally subscribed to. This used to be a show of relaxing escape into a world of calming dialogue about nature...Read full review »

Just like the other event reviews I’m horrified with these new American presenters. Instead of a relaxing podcast you can tune into to, it’s an over exaggerated, obnoxiously loud podcast. The two new presenters sound like they’re on an American chat host show and this podcast has lost its essence...Read full review »

Adored the previous seasons with Emily Knight. The shows were entertaining, educational and sophisticated. There are still interesting topics on the show but I’m not as big of a fan of the new format or the style of new hosts.

I’m honestly devastated. They’ve completely destroyed the identity of the show. This used to be such a calming, informative and comforting podcast. It let the stories do the talking, while the host took a back seat. It didn’t have to use hokey sound effects to transport its listeners. Now it’s...Read full review »

This used to be such a good, informative podcast, the new direction and hosts are really not what I subscribed to this podcast for.

Before 2022, this podcast was amazing!!! Now they’ve completely Americanized a British podcast and I can’t stand it. I waited 1.5 years for this?! No thanks. Unsubscribed.

This was my favourite podcast for quite moments and I was so looking forward to the new series after listening to all the previous episodes multiple times. The first 4 seasons were really good, Emily knight did an amazing job and her narrations were perfect. These new teens who narrate sound awful and their dialogue is moot.
MWym. via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/02/22
Emily Knight presented the initial 4 seasons and was a erudite, thoughtful presenter with a fantastic tone. Season 5 sees two new presenters who are self-indulgent and self-referential millennials with whiny sensibilities. I’m a little devastated and giving up after two episodes….
AJWoolley via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 10/29/22
I love and respect the 2 new hosts, but it’s not the same vibe that Emily Knight created. This is super American and coming across quite fake, loud and intense? Understand the BBC trying another style but I think it’s just such a dramatic change from before.

The previous series was interesting, informative and a wonderful way of submerging yourself in nature. People interested in this topic don’t want to listen about computer games and Pokémon. It has become very American and the target audience seems to now be teenagers. Really disappointed.

First season was amazing. Accompanied me through weeks of staring at insects down a microscope at a new job. I found the hosts voices and the soundscapes very soothing. Why change the format? The new format completely killed the BBC-worthy nature documentary-style storytelling that had me listening in awe from the very beginning. I used to love the BBC earth podcast in the previous years. It was extremely well done, thrilling and with many goosebumps moments. The new episodes however, are more like a babble podcast. Boring.

Why has this gone all American? It sounds like every other American podcast now

Sad to find out that Emily Knight isn’t hosting the show anymore. Without her calm, British voice and thoughtful narrative the podcast sadly sounds like every other show on the internet

The first 4 seasons were stellar. This new style I am not at all a fan of, sounds like every other corporate podcast now.

Oh no! New hosts! This isn’t an American show; it’s a calm, peaceful, beautiful escape from a noisy Americanised world. I’m genuinely pretty devastated about this 😢

I can’t believe how beautiful and poetic this is. The host, Emily Knight should write a book! The insight is so relevant from the guests and the structure is like a story and a narrator. You’d think you’d miss ‘seeing’ nature with these, but thanks to the exquisite sound design you’re made to ‘see’ with your ears the wonders of nature.
